A) Simple presentation

Video editing in EKD is available in three options: video only, video+audio and cut/crop of a video (for this last case, a further explanation is given at the end of this section).

a1) Video > Video editing > Video only

Here we can concatenate videos, that means to past one on the other to make a single video at the end. There’s only one track; the audio track.

Important: EKD allows you to concatenate videos from different codecs and different sizes.

a2) Video > Video editing > Video + audio

Here we can concatenate too some video files, which means to past them into a single video file (on the video track). The big difference is that (compared to before) we have an audio track which allows you to make audio editing (along with video editing).

Important: EKD allows you to concatenate videos (for the video part) of different codecs and different sizes. About the audio part it’s possible to concatenate audio files from different codecs and different frequencies .

a3) Video > Video editing > Cut/crop of a video

As it is said in its name, here we can shorten a video, in order to use it later, for exemple, in another editing.

B) Practical case of video + audio editing

b1) Loading videos

Let’s go, start at Video > Video editing > Video + audio, select the tab Video(s) source, click on the button Add….

In the window Searching videos, on the left side select the directory (if you need loook in the subdirectories), look for the videos. If you wish to select more than one video at the time, keep the key CTRL (or SHIFT) pressed (while selecting them), click on Add.

Your videos are now on the list.

b2) Loading audio files

Now select the tab Audio(s) source, click then on the button Add….

In the window Searching videos, on the left side select the directory (if you need loook in the subdirectories), look for the videos. If you wish to select more than one video at the time, keep the key CTRL (or SHIFT) pressed (while selecting them), click on Add

Your audio files are now added to the list.

b3) Settings of the editing order

You can go now to the tab Settings, you’re going to see two lists in which you can change the order of appearance of the videos and audio files (by taking up or down each file, with the arrows).

b4) The treatment (the concatenation in itself)

To start the final concatenation, click on the button Apply.

Soon after, the saving window (Save) gets open, here on the left side, select the final directory (you can look for subdirectories), write the title in the text field File name and click on the button Save.

At this moment, a dialogue box gets open to ask you to read and confirm some informations, if you want to go on click on the button Yes.

The work is going on and a progress bar appears (it’s the video treatment). Just for you to know, another progress bar will be in place for the audio treatment.

After this, the final progress bar starts.

Once this is done, you can see all the informations about the work that has just been made, to have a look click on the button See the informations about encoding. At the end, click on the button Close.

Get to the tab Play video, you can also play the video coming from the video and audio concatenation . In this tab, you can choose among the buttons play/pause, stop and the choice of the display dimensions (4/3, 16/9 and (w;h) to play the video in the widht x height of the origin).

b5) Informations about the paths

To end it up, the tab Infos lets you see the videos that have been loaded (with the exact paths) before and after the assembling.

C) Practical case of cropping a video

- Video > Video editing > Cut/crop of a video: As it is said in its name, here we can shorten a video, in order to use it later, for exemple, in another editing later.

c1) Activation of the tools to crop

First, we have a look at the tab Settings, before a video is loaded. You can see that the tools to crop are not on ; they will be on as soon as a video has been activated (and readable).

c2) Loading a video

You can only crop a video at the time, that’s why we’re going to load only one video.

Let’s go, start at Video > Video editing > Video + audio, select the tab Video(s) source, click on the button Add….

In the window Searching videos, on the left side select the directory (if you need loook in the subdirectories), look for the videos. Then click on Add.

Your file has been added to the list.

c3) Make the settings for the crop

Let’s go now to the tab Settings and let’s start to play the video by the button play/pause 1) (as you can see, all the different options are now on).

To select the beginning of the crop (the exact point where the video is gonna start once the crop has been made), we’re going to click on the button with the simple hook (blue) to the left 2).

To select the end of the crop (the exact point where the video is gonna end once the crop has been made), we’re going to click on the button with the simple hook (blue) to the right 3).

c4) Treatment (applying the crop)

Once you do this, go through the button Apply.

Soon after, the saving window (Save) gets open, here on the left side, select the final directory (you can look for subdirectories), write the title in the text field File name and click on the button Save.

When the progress bar goes to the end, a button See the encoding informations appears.

By clicking on this button you’ll get all the informations.

c5) Information about the paths

To end it up, the tab Infos lets you see the videos that have been loaded (with the exact paths) before and after the assembling.

c6) The different options availables for the crop

Here’s a short presentation about the settings you can make for the crop of a video.

You’re surely wondering how is it possible to set in a precise way the place where you’re going to set the beginning and the end of the crop (when the video is on at the normal speed it is impossible to set it with precision). A small buttona) has been set for the circumstance (it’s the first round button with the minus sign inside ). You can also go back to the regular speed b) or accelerate the speed c).

If you’re going to make the crop at the beginning of the video, you need to click on the button with the double hook (red) to the left 4).

If you want to select automatically the end of the video, click on the button with the double hook (red) to the right 5).

In our exemple we kept (for the final crop) the existant audio track, if you want to skip this audio track, click simply on the button with the white speaker on a blue background, this is going to set it off and a vertical bar is going to appear6).

To end it, the button with the two reverse green arrows 7) will let you reset the parameters (that means before you set the beginning of the crop).
