A) Short introduction

Here you can view/save and then print some contact sheet (Picture board in EKD) (images of a series of pictures [for instance], on a sheet).

In EKD thumbnails are shared in the Number of images by line et and Nunber of images by column (ajustable by the user).

You can view 20 pages at most. To know about the maximum number of images that can be put into the different pages of the contact sheet (and following the rules we’ve seen before), a dialogue box can be opened by the button Information:

… here’s what is shown by default in this dialogue box, when the value of the Number of images by line is on 4 and the value Number of images by column is on 6:

B) Practical case (settings by default)

b1) Loading images

If you have a batch of pictures that you want to organise in a contact sheet (Picture board in EKD), it is not necessary to change the settings. We’re now moving to the practical case.

You need at first to load the images, in order to do it go to the Image(s) source tab and click on Add.

A dialogue box appears, unfold then the directory and choose the one in which you have your images (on the left side), your images are shown as thumbnails (by default) on the right side. To select several images, click on the first thumbnail, then, by keeping the SHIFT key pushed, click on the last thumbnail, then click on Add.

The images that you previously selected are now loaded in the main window.

b2) Settings

Go to the Layout tab, keep the parameters by default.

In the Other settings tab, keep (there too) the settings by default (to know exactly what do theses settings are useful for, read this page).

b3) See the result

Let’s now imagine that you want to see the result of the contact sheet, in order to do it click on the button See the result.

Here’s the preview about settings Number of images by line at 4 and Number of images by column at 6.

b4) The treatment of the contact sheet

If this is all right for you, click on the button Return to close this previex and click on the button Apply to save the contact(s) sheet(s).

The saving window gets open (Save) , in this one, on the left side, select the destination directory (if you need unfold the sub directories), write the title in the text field File name and click on the button Save.

During the treatment the advancing bar gets in action.

At the end of the treatment all the images are shown in the Image(s) after treatment tab (you can see all the images by their thumbnails).

b5) See the informations

If you click on the infos tab, you will be able to get the infos about the path of the images you loaded in the contact sheet you saved.

C) New settings

c1) Special situation

Let’s now imagine that we want to create a contact sheet as a storyboard (here you can find the passage of From one image to another at a setting different from 1).

c2) Eliminate old thumbnails

Go back now at the Image(s) source tab, and eliminate the images (all the images you previously loaded), in order to do this select all the images by pushing the CTRL key then A on the keyboard, to end it up at this level, click on Remove’.

c3) Loading images

You have to load some new images by clicking on the button Add’.

The loading dialogue box apperars, in this one unfold and select the directory in which you have your images (on the left side), you’re going to see your images as thumbnails (by default) on the right side. To select several images, click on the first thumbnail, then by keepin the SHIFT key pushed clock on the last thumbnail, then click on Add.

The images are correctly loaded in the main window.

c4) Réglages (la mise en page)

Go to the Layout tab. You are certainly wondering what the parameter From one image to another is useful for… . Well, let’s imagine you loaded 1323 images and that you settled From one image to another at 23 as it is shown in the image below (in the meanwhile we changed some others parameters):

c5) Starting the final calculation

Click on the button Apply, the window gives you informations about the way your files are going to be after the saving and tells you that if you’re going to save images with the same name, those images will be erased. Click on the button Ok.

During the treatment the advancing bar gets in action.

c6) See the result

Here’s the result (only for images 1, 24, 47, 70, 93, 116, 139, 162, … which have been treated, the other images heve not been considered).
